| Named after George McDuffie, Governor of South Carolina, the county was created on October 18, 1870. The Superior Court of McDuffie County is located at 337 Main Street, Thomson, and presides over jury trials, rules on evidence, hears motions, and renders verdicts in bench trials. Each Superior Court Judge is a constitutional officer elected to four-year terms of office.
